The Top 3 Reasons to Always Buy a Valentine’s Day Card with Any Gift

Even though you probably spent way too much time finding it, you’ve gotten the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for your partner, but don’t forget the card. Holiday cards might seem old schoolish, but the right message written by you to your lover does more for them emotionally than you know. Here are the top 3 reasons to always buy a Valentine’s Day card:

  1. To express your feelings in your own words
    • Expressing your feelings in your own words is number one because your words matter to your significant other. Think about the genuine moments when someone told you, “You’re a really good person to everyone” or “My heart smiles every time I see you.” In moments where people you care about say things like these to you, a certain warmth floods through you. You feel loved, seen and cared about.
    • You have the power to make someone else feel that exact same way. They’ll love you more when they read your message on the card telling them how much you appreciated that time they randomly cooked breakfast for you or surprised you in a good way. When they read how good they make you feel in your own words, they’ll be more excited about making you happy.
    • Your words matter. There’s power in them. Use them.
  2. They Create a Tangible Bond
    • Physical Valentine’s Day cards create a physical bond between two people. With your words on a card, you also give your touch. Those unintentional smudges of ink, the smell of the card or doodles you make are reminders to the receiver that you were and are there. Your hands touched the card at some point. Whenever they feel the need to touch you, no matter how far you are apart, they’ll find comfort running their fingers across that card, while thinking of you.
    • Smell is the strongest sense tied to memory, and pheromones are used in nature to woo potential lovers. When you gift a card, you might carry it your car, bag or large pocket. The card might even make it to your home overnight. Along the way, it picks up scents and smells. Your hand leaves behind a little sweat with pheromones. When that card makes it to that person, they’ll get a whiff of your cologne or perfume, your soap or car freshener or a mix of aromas. These scents are all a reminder of you.
  3. Cards are Expected
    • Years ago, I gave somebody a gift I knew they’d wanted for quite some time, and as they opened the bag, they said, “Where’s the card?” The question took me aback, but luckily I had gotten them a one. Still, the card had come as an afterthought, and I’m a writer, so naturally I scrawled my own meaningful message on it.
    • At that moment, though, I thought about the fallout that would have come had I not gotten the card. At that time, they were a couple of dollars, but this card saved me days of hearing complaints about not getting her a card. More people expect cards than you think. When you hand them a bag with an expensive card, they’ll dig to the bottom in search of the card first. Be sure they find what they’re looking for.

The Takeaway

People like gifts, but they love how cards make them feel, so add one to your Valentine’s Day gift bag. Use the card to share a small handwritten message in your own words to strengthen that tangible bond between you and the recipient of the card. The people you care about expect cards, and this is your time to shine. TheReedersBlock.com wishes you and your special someone a happy Valentine’s Day.
