Former McDonald’s employee Afeni Muhammad, 27, is set for trial September 15, 2026, for the stabbing death of her manager at McDonald’s. A simple disagreement turned into a deadly ambush.
What Happened
On July 10, 2025, Eastpointe, Michigan, McDonald’s manager Jennifer Harris told Muhammad to clock out and go home. Jennifer had told Muhammad this after witnessing Muhammad failing to work. Muhammad didn’t like the rebuke.
As Muhammad was being clocked out, she told Jennifer, “You reap what you sow.” Jennifer continued her workday, and Muhammad left seething. But she didn’t go straight home.
Instead, she drove to a park and sat there, brooding in being disciplined. According to her own confession, she decided she wasn’t going to let the incident slide. She was going to kill Jennifer. So, Muhammad drove back to the McDonald’s.
She then put on a mask, grabbed a kitchen knife and walked through the back entrance. Surveillance video from the store shows her approaching Jennifer and stabbing her 23 times. The attack went from the counter area into the kitchen, leaving a trail of blood and witnesses. Muhammad would’ve stabbed her more times, but an unlikely hero stepped in.

As Muhammad carried out her brutal attack, a customer in the drive-thru saw the stabbing happening through the window. Devonte Pace didn’t just watch. He pulled out his gun and fired a warning shot. Muhammad immediately froze.
Devonte held her at gunpoint until police arrived. She ended up in the parking lot. When police got to her, Muhammad’s clothes were covered in blood. But the police had arrived too lately to save Jennifer. She had been stabbed 23 times, and later, the medical examiner confirmed that any of 13 serious wounds could’ve been the fatal one.
The Aftermath
Afeni Muhammad is currently being held on a $25 million bond. It is one of the highest ever set in Macomb County. This is because the prosecution successfully argued that she is a clear “danger to the community.” She is being charged with first-degree premeditated murder. She also has a criminal record that makes her a habitual offender.
In January of 2022, police arrested Muhammad for stabbing her boyfriend in Alexandria, Virginia. She pleaded guilty to “unlawful wounding” with intent to maim or kill. This means that if she is convicted of the first-degree premeditated murder charge, her sentence will most likely be enhanced to life without parole.
The Takeaway
Afeni Muhammad will start trial on September 15, 2026, for the stabbing death of her McDonald’s manager Jennifer Harris. The stabbing happened inside of the store at 17921 East 9 Mile Road, Eastpointe, MI 48021. Muhammad had a prior criminal record for a similar incident which might enhance the sentencing for this murder if she is found guilty. The evidence is not on her side.
