On Monday, April 6, rapper Offset, 34, real name Kiari Kendrell Cephus, was shot at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. Here’s what we know so far.
What Happened to Offset
Around 7 pm, Offset was in the valet area of Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. As he waited, witnesses say two men approached him and opened fire. Offset was struck, and police were called.
Offset was located and taken to Memorial Regional Hospital. Two individuals were arrested. It is unclear as of now what sparked the shooting, but some are claiming it was retaliation for an earlier altercation between the rapper’s crew and the group of rapper Lil Tjay.
According to TMZ, the police have released a statement saying, “We are aware of an incident that occurred at a valet area after 7 p.m. Monday outside of Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood that resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to an individual who was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. Seminole Police were on site immediately and the situation was contained quickly. Two individuals have been detained by police. The investigation is ongoing. The site is secure and there is no threat to the public. Operations continue as normal.” This wasn’t the first time Offset was the target of gunfire.
Prior Shootings Involving the Migos
On May 8, 2019, Offset was at the Crossover Entertainment Group recording studio in Atlanta. After a long session, he stepped outside to “get some fresh air.” While he was outside, a black SUV pulled up and let off shots. Offset wasn’t injured in the shooting, but he did later lose a member of his trio rap group Migos to a different shooting.
In 2022, the NY Times notes that Migos rapper Takeoff “was shot dead outside a bowling alley in Houston. The police said Takeoff had been a bystander at a private party where an argument led to gunfire.” Patrick Xavier Clark was later booked in Houston and charged with his murder. He goes to trial this year.
