A local Chicago Alderman has confirmed a group of at least 10 high schoolers brutally attacked and robbed a man who was walking home from work. It’s a horrifying story for anyone just trying to make it home from a day of working hard. Here are the details.

What Happened

Last Saturday, the teen victim was nearly home, after walking from his job at a local Roscoe Village pizzeria. Before he could get there, the local alderman said the teenager was suddenly surrounded by a gang of at least 10 high school boys at 3500 N. Hoyne at 8:48 pm. The pack beat and robbed the 19-year-old victim, but he didn’t go easily.

In his weekly newsletter to his constituents, Alderman Waguespack said, “The victim is doing well and was able to defend himself against the ten offenders who kicked and punched him, but a similar attack will only be prevented by holding the offenders accountable.” The teenager who was robbed also received some unexpected help.

According to the alderman, some residents got involved and held one of the attackers. They detained the 16-year-old boy until police got there. CPD confirmed the teenager has been charged with Felony Robbery. The others got away with the victim’s cash, phone and keys. CWB reports, “An officer who responded to the scene described the group as white juvenile males.”

Alderman Waguespack asked residents to attend the neighborhood’s next community policing meeting. It is scheduled for April 15 at 6:30 pm and will be held in the police auditorium at 2452 West Belmont Avenue.

The Takeaway
