What Happened
According to reports by cwbchicago.com, a woman was standing on the Blue Line platform when she became the victim of an unprovoked attack. At about 11:30 pm on May 10, prosecutors say Robert Rhodes-Chambers, 44, assaulted the woman.
With bystanders looking on, reports say Chambers punched the woman in the back of the head and the shoulder. He then shoved the 43-year-old woman onto the tracks. Two witnesses stepped in to protect the woman from the attack.
As cited in police reports, the two men began punching Chambers and threw him onto the train tracks. They then continued beating him there on the tracks. The entire incident was captured on CTA cameras. Eventually, police and paramedics arrived.
The reports say the woman suffered pain to multiple parts of her body, including her head, shoulder and ankle. However, she was still able to identify the man as her attacker. The suspect didn’t leave by cop car.
Instead, Chambers needed an ambulance which the police called for him. As he was taken out on a stretcher by firefighters, the victim confirmed him as the suspect. It is unclear what his motive was.
