Rapper Yung Joc and Family “Hurting” After Fire Deaths of His Nieces and Nephew: A Video

On his radio show Yung Joc and The Streetz Morning Takeover, rapper Yung Joc acknowledged that it was his three young relatives — a nephew and two nieces — who sadly perished in the deadly Atlanta fire earlier in February. The children were his brother’s.

What Happened

On February 19 around 3:30 pm, Atlanta Fire Rescue crews responded to an apartment complex located in the 300 block of Fairburn Road. The Fire Rescue Chief said the crews observed smoke and fire coming from a second floor apartment.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire and get everyone out, giving the community hope. At the scene, crews gave aid to the children, who were later rushed to the hospital. The children were treated for smoke inhalation but unfortunately passed away, authorities said.

The mother of the three children found the strength to confirm the identities of the children as 9-month-old Xhalia White, 1-year-old Xyla White and 4-year-old Jhacari White, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office. The office noted Xyla’s second birthday would have been the day after the fire.

Yung Joc revealed yesterday on his radio show that the victims of the fire were his family. He said he had not mentioned this publicly previously because he didn’t want to overshadow the moment. He reflected on the situation.

“I don’t know if you understand the level of trauma this brings to our community and the family that this affects directly or indirectly. I’m sad, I’m hurt, I’m human and I’m trying to be professional,” Joc said of the pain.

The fire department has concluded the fire was likely caused by electrical issues, but an investigation into what sparked the flames continues.
