One of the biggest killers of dreams is the doubt that the dream will be achieved, but everything you want is already yours. You simply have to set a plan, put it in action and get to it.
The Maze
When I was a kid, I learned early that I could solve any maze mentally working my way from the end to the beginning. During that mental tracing, I learned what paths were blocked and which weren’t and used that information to get to the endpoint. Achieving goals has a similar process.
… those who quit use barriers as reasons why they quit.
As an example, let’s say you want a new car. The first thing you would do is think of what you need to get a new car. One complication might include your not having enough money to buy it. You’d look up the price and take note of how much money you already have. Then, you would set a savings plan to afford the car later.
When you want something, you have to consider the barriers you may face and how to overcome them. This is usually where the unserious types give up. Instead of evaluating the barriers for ways to predict and overcome them, those who quit use these barriers as reasons why they quit. The best information you can have when getting to a goal is knowing what you need to overcome. If you don’t know, then you don’t have a plan and will find it difficult to conquer what’s blocking you.
Aerial Contemplation
Perched on the ledge of contemplation, envisioning you at the beginning of a maze and your goal at the end with complications and paths forward in between, you’ll become more confident in what you do. So, what do you want to do? What do you want to achieve?
A dream becomes a goal only when action is put behind it.
It sounds corny, but write your goals out because this inspires you to put it into action. You can jot out the pros and cons but also the best way forward and what to avoid. You can also write out your goal(s) in a clear complete sentence to be sure you know exactly what your goal is. Then, write out four immediate steps you will take to get there. Set a timeframe of completion. It’s does not have to be a hard and fast timeframe but one that is general and meant to keep you on track. Write out your milestones and the date by which you will complete them. Organization like this makes it feel as real as it is.
Everything you want is already yours when you have a plan to get it. As we age, the word “dream” or even “goal” becomes less inspiring and more like a word for kids who don’t know what the world really is. Your dreams and goals are one and the same. If you dream of owning your own business, it should be a goal. A dream becomes a goal only when action is put behind it. The moment you go from picturing it in your head to writing it down, your dream transforms into a goal. You always have possession of the ball.
The Takeaway
What you want is already yours, and you just have to set a plan to get it. Think of your goals as on the other side of the maze from you, with your having an aerial view. Envision the barriers that may arise and the fixes to them. When you predict the complications, you make your chances of success far more likely. Relish in your dreams, and write them out so that they become goals. Those goals will then become the reality you seek.
