Stephen A. Smith took to the 7 PM in Brooklyn podcast to let the world know why he still doesn’t like LeBron James. During the episode with former NBA player Carmelo Anthony, the 58-year-old Stephen A. Smith said there won’t be a “peaceful solution” between him and LeBron James.
Why Stephen A. Smith Has LeBron Beef
“I don’t like his ass, not a little bit,” Stephen A. Smith said when asked about LeBron James. “This dates back more than a decade. I’m not going to go into detail of the shit this man has tried to do to me. People don’t understand. You do not understand the lengths this man would go to. You know, I believe he’s one way publicly, he’s another way privately.”

Furthermore, according to Complex, com, Smith accused LeBron of “low, low shit” by trying to have Stephen removed from the air. He accused LeBron of making negative comments about him privately. Those comments allegedly got back to him and enraged him.

Additionally, he recalled a time back in March 2025 when LeBron James confronted him courtside at a New York Nicks versus Lakers game. Lebron approached Smith over comments he had made about LeBron James’s son. In that moment, Smith said he felt “set up.” LeBron allegedly said in his own defense, “I have to protect my family.” Smith denied being a threat to LeBron’s family and said, “… you can’t measure the level of how pissed off I have been over that.”
The Takeaway
Stephen A. Smith made comments about LeBron James that got back to LeBron James, causing the basketball player to confront the sports commentator. Smith acknowledged this happened many years ago but that he’s still “pissed” beyond measure. He’s also said it won’t be a “peaceful solution” between him and the player who stands at over 6’9 and nearly two decades younger. The veiled threat may not have any teeth, but Smith is still bitter about being confronted over his own words and being unable to defend himself in the moment.
