28-year-old Aliyah Henderson is in custody facing murder charges in Cleveland, Ohio. The charges come after her daughters’ bodies were found in suitcases in a park. Here’s what’s been revealed.
What Happened
On Monday, A man was walking his dog and stumbled upon the disturbing scene at a playground. It’s not far from an all-boys school called Ginn Academy.
Phillip Donaldson told WEWS-TV, “It was like a pile of dirt, and she stopped to sniff … and she was taking too long. So I went back and looked, and it was a suitcase that was half-buried, and I pulled it up and looked in it, and it was a head. Somebody’s head in it.”
Cleveland police arrived and quickly cut off the surrounding area. Then, they did a sweep to locate any other evidence. Close to the first body, they found another in a shallow grave. It too had been stuffed in a suitcase.
The father of one of the girls was heartbroken. “I just feel useless. I couldn’t save my daughter,” Deshaun Chatman told local reporters. On Thursday, he visited the spot where his daughter had been buried. He said he wished he could’ve done more.
Chatman went on to say that he had not had any contact with his daughter for years. He said his daughter’s mother, Henderson, kept ducking him. He had tried through DCFS numerous times to get custody of Mila. It didn’t work.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office did not say how or when the girls died. The office did confirm that a DNA test showed the girls are sisters.
Municipal Court Judge Jeffrey Johnson set Henderson’s bond at $2 million to walk.
The Takeaway
28-year-old Aliyah Henderson is in custody facing murder charges related to her daughters. Deshaun Chatman, the ather of one of the girls, had unsuccessfully tried to get custody of her multiple times. His attempts didn’t work. Henderson’s bail is $2 million. She’ll have her trial, but it won’t bring her daughters back. There needs to be a second investigation into DCFS to understand why a father couldn’t save his daughter from a fate he tried to save her from.
