A juvenile and a 23-year-old man from suburban Ford Heights are facing charges of Armed Robbery after allegedly pistol whipping and robbing an undercover FBI agent. The brazenness of the attack has the public and law enforcement on edge.

What Happened

As reported by fox32chicago.com, on Friday, April 3, the undercover FBI Task Force Officer met with Marcus Lewis, 23, and a juvenile to buy cocaine. But when they met, it didn’t go according to plan.

Not long after the meeting started, Lewis and the juvenile looked at the agent and said something like, “We know you’re a cop.” According to the Department of Justice, the two didn’t walk away.

Instead, they pulled out a gun and started pistol whipping the FBI Task Force Officer with it. While they pistol whipped the agent, they robbed him of $10,000 in government funds that was for the cocaine purchase. It’s unclear if the agent was disarmed or why he didn’t use his service pistol. After beating and robbing him, they got into their car to get away.

As Lewis and the juvenile tried to peel off, they didn’t get far. They ended up crashing head-on into a police vehicle that was moving in to assist the agent. As fox32chicago.com reports, “juvenile was arrested while Lewis fled on foot and was later arrested early the next morning.”

Marcus Lewis was charged with one count of robbery in federal court. He waived his right to a detention hearing yesterday. He’s being held in federal custody. He’s due back in court on April 15.

The Takeaway

Two are in custody for the armed robbery and pistol whipping of an undercover FBI agent. The 23-year-old Ford Heights suspect is charged with Robbery (the Armed Robbery charge is unclear, since the 18 U.S.C. § 2112 “Personal Property of the United States” he was charged under isn’t necessarily Armed Robbery), Aggravated Battery of a Peace Officer and Resisting Arrest. It’s unclear why he was not charged with possessing the firearm. His next court date is April 15. The age of the juvenile has not been released, but they are facing state charges. The photos of the suspects have not been publicly released. More details are developing.
