A teenager has been charged in a carjacking linked to a much bigger, violent group. He’s been caught, but police are warning there are still others out on the streets. Here are the details and what to watch out for as the group expands into new territory.

What Happened

As reported by CWBChicago.com, At 6 am on March 17, a dark-colored Maserati pulled up alongside two men, ages 25 and 47, who were standing outside. As they came to a stop on 400 W. Erie Street, several “young men” suddenly hopped out with guns. They took money and some other items before taking off towards Kingsbury Street. About a week after this, a 17-year-old and 15-year-old were arrested. The other 3 — 4 were not.

The 15-year-old was not initially charged with armed robbery. He was charged with Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle. The Maserati they used was stolen, reports note. However, yesterday on April 13, he was officially charged for the armed robbery as well. That was actually their second robbery of the day, according to police.

About 30 minutes before the Erie attack, the crew committed their first robbery on the Near West Side on West Flournoy Street. Four armed men jumped out of an SUV and pistol whipped a victim. A preliminary police report says they got away with his wallet and cellphone. The man was able to make it to a home not far away and request help calling the police. The Maserati Crew’s armed violence didn’t just start, investigators have alerted the community.

In early March, around the 8th, at 5:25 am, victims were robbed on East Chicago Avenue. The group robbed the victims of expensive watches, jewelry, clothing and wallets. In at least one case, police reports say the robbers deliberately rear-ended a victim’s car as a trick to get close to them. This isn’t the worst they’ve done, from what reports reveal.

In one case, the crew is accused of using rifles and handguns to rob a 64-year-old man. Police say the robbers took his wallet, watch and some other items. They also aimed their weapons at bystanders but took nothing from the 58-year-old woman and 47-year-old man. Some of the robbers have been caught, but many are still out potentially harming innocent people.

The Takeaway

A 15-year-old boy has officially been charged with Armed Robbery after two men were robbed on March 17. A 17-year-old was also charged in that case, but police say 3 — 4 are still out on the streets.
