Suburban Chicago Man Charged with Murdering Maintenance Man

Police have confirmed the arrest of a suburban Chicago man for the murder of a maintenance man. The arrest comes after what appears to be a brief run from the law.

What Happened

On April 2, Chicago Police responded to a call of shots fired in a building in the 4500 block of South Drexel Boulevard. Upon arriving at 5:35 pm, they found a gruesome scene.

A witness told police that a tenant named Gaddis Price in the building had been arguing with Alonzo Johnson, age 42, earlier. According to reports by nbcchicago.com, the witness said Price went to his apartment, returned with a firearm and opened fire on Johnson.

On the scene, Officers found the man in the lobby of the building with multiple gunshot wounds. They determined he had been shot in the left hand, right shoulder and chest.

Alonzo Johnson had also lived on the block. As noted by nbcchicago.com, “… he was was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition. He died there at 8:06 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.”

The Takeaway

On May 11, Gaddis Price, 38, was arrested in the 6800 block of S. Stony Island Ave. He was charged with one count each of First-Degree Murder and Possession of a Controlled Substance. He’s scheduled for court tomorrow, May 14.
