CBS News reports that on Saturday, July 25, a shooting happened on Chicago’s Near West Side at the Barbara Jean Wright Court Apartments. An event outside nearly turned deadly, as a large gathering of families enjoyed the weather.

Police say that at roughly 12:35 am, a black SUV crept into the parking lot. At that time, an unidentified individual from inside the car allegedly opened fire, striking multiple people.

Reports note that a 5-year-old was shot somewhere in the abdomen. The child was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. A second victim who was also shot was taken to the same hospital, but the 39-year-old man was listed in good condition.
