A Special Breaking

Actress Hayden Panettiere, 36, has been confirmed dead about three months after the release of her controversial, revealing memoir. This is what we know so far.

What Happened

At 1:51 pm on Sunday, August 16, the Greenville Police Department received a call about an unresponsive female in cardiac arrest. According to police, the call was made by an acquaintance of actress and mother Hayden Panettiere.

Shortly thereafter, police and a medical team arrived to the Judson Mill Lofts complex in Greenville, South Carolina. This is a well-known area with rich history.

Medics administered medical attention at the scene to Panettiere. However, their attempts to revive the actress were unsuccessful. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

It marked the tragic end to a career that started as early as 11 months old, when she was just a baby in commercials. It also comes when her controversial book was shedding light on the dark side of Hollywood.

The Memoir

Hayden Panettiere’s death happened just months after the release of her memoir This Is Me: A Reckoning. Released on May 19 of this year, this book exposes some of the predatory behavior she had survived.

In the memoir, Panettiere mentions being 18 years old and in the company of a friend, a woman, she trusted. During their yacht trip in France, that friend led her to the bed of “a very famous man,” who was naked. As Panettiere put it, her friend tried to pressure her to get in bed with the man, but she refused. That wasn’t the only time someone had preyed upon her.

Panettiere mentions in the book being corned at a party by an Oscar-winning actor. This actor allegedly exposed himself to her. She also claimed one man had kissed her on the lips without her consent. Even with these incidents, her career is notable and raw.

Success and Struggles

Hayden Panettiere was open about her struggles with addiction as well. In This Is Me, she reflects on her battle with opioid abuse. As a child actress, she had been given pills by someone, and she developed an addiction.

To get her life together, she went to rehab. She understood she needed to heal. However, she admitted that she had been in a cycle of alcohol and drug abuse. Regardless, she had a good career.

Panettiere starred in at least 20 movies, including Remember the Titans, Raising Helen, Ice Princess, Bring It On: All or Nothing, I Love You, Beth Cooper. Her tv shows included One Life to Live, Ally McBeal and Heroes among others.

She was also a mother, who leaves behind an 11-year-old daughter.

The Takeaway

Actress and mother Hayden Panettiere was pronounced dead on Sunday, August 16, after an acquaintance made an emergency call. Her cause of death has not been released. She was born August 21, 1989. However, police have said that foul play is not suspected at this time. This is a developing case. Check back for updates.
