One teen is in custody after helping to steal two branded Chick-fil-A compact cars with co-conspirators. How they stole the cars is so easy, those with similar models are on high alert.

What Happened

On May 8, at about 2:30 pm, three suspects pulled up in the parking lot of the Chick-fil-A located at 2895 S. Green Bay Road in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin. It was broad daylight, but they didn’t fear putting their criminal plan to work, police report.

According to Fox News, suspects entered two of the company’s branded compact cars and performed a viral teenage hack. Taking a page off of TikTok, the suspects used the “Kia Challenge” Flaw.

Because of a design flaw in the Kia Soul 2022 ignition, the teens were able to break the steering column cover to get to the ignition tumbler. Once inside, they used the tip of a standard USB cable to turn the tumbler like a key. It takes less than thirty seconds to do this. The hack was quick, and the suspects were gone in a convoy before the staff called police, but they did call.

Within two to three hours, police spotted one of the branded vehicles in Racine, Wisconsin. The police attempted to pull the driver over, but he wasn’t ready to go. They got into a short high-speed chase, before the suspect crashed the vehicle at Deane Boulevard and Quincy Avenue. He still wasn’t ready to surrender.

After the collision, the suspect took off on foot. Mount Pleasant and Racine police decided to use some of their newest, and oldest, methods to take him down. The police deployed drones to track his movements and K-9s to capture him. The 16-year-old suspect was caught and arrested without further incident. The police still had at least two other suspects to apprehend.

According to police, they found the second Chick-fil-A car abandoned shortly after and the original getaway car which was also stolen. However, they didn’t catch the other two suspects.

The Takeaway

A 16-year-old Racine teenager is in custody after stealing a Chick-fil-A branded car. Doing so wasn’t particularly hard, and this hack can be done to models like the 2022 Kia Soul, one of the types of vehicles stolen from Chick-fil-A. Two other suspects are still at large. Secure your vehicle and spread the word to inform others.
