Juvenile Charged in Multiple Armed Robberies and Carjackings, Months-Long Crime Spree

A juvenile is in custody after terrorizing Chicago for the past four months. The number of armed robberies, carjackings and other crimes is unbelievable.

What Happened

On May 7, Chicago Police arrested a 16-year-old offender for his connection to multiple violent crimes. His reign of terror started as far back as January of this year, police say. Records show on January 3, the suspect disturbingly used a firearm to commit a senseless crime spree against unsuspecting victims.

Police say on January 3, at 5:46 a.m. in 3000 block of N. Ashland, the offender committed an armed robbery of a 40-year-old man. Shortly after, records show the juvenile was engaged in more crime at 5:52 a.m. in the 2600 block of N. Lincoln, where he committed burglary of a business. At 6:02 a.m. in the 3100 block N. Broadway, he ended the morning with the burglary of another business. That was just the beginning.

The juvenile started his criminal activity back up on April 23 at 12:19 a.m. in the 1100 block of N. Harding, with the aggravated vehicular hijacking of a 45-year-old female. Later at 3:13 a.m. in the 300 block of W. Chicago, he used a firearm to rob a 23-year-old man. At 3:21 a.m. in the 2300 block of N. Damen Ave., he committed the armed robbery of a 59-year-old male. He went on a spree, but police were able to put the pieces together using new technology.

Through facial recognition software, police identified the juvenile suspect. On Thursday, May 7, he was arrested near the intersection of Spaulding Avenue and 19th Street, near the Little Village Area. According to police, he was taken into custody without incident. It is unclear if he was working as part of a larger crew.

The 16-year-old armed robber in this case is charged with Three (3) felony counts. Those are Robbery – Armed with Firearm, two felony counts of Burglary, one felony count of Vehicular Hijacking – Aggravated – Firearm and two Issuances of Warrant, as noted on the Chicago Police Department’s website. His last court date was a juvenile detention hearing on May 8. The case continues, but the police have seemingly gotten one very dangerous individual off the streets.
