What Happened
According to fox32chicago.com, police say that Elijah Winsley, 20, was in the home of the victim on Friday, May 22. Reports say Winsley shot the victim twice at 1:30 pm in his Gresham home near 81st and Laflin. The motive was not given.
The victim was rushed to Christ Hospital, but he didn’t make it. It was the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office that ultimately identified the man as Fred Winsley Jr. The victim and suspect share the same last name, but the exact familial relationship has not been confirmed.
Within four hours of the shooting, Winsley was arrested. Police found him outside near the corner of 78th and Halsted. He was charged with First-Degree Murder. Fox News reports this isn’t his first arrest.
The news station notes that “Winsley was last arrested in Chicago in June 2024 on charges of battery and resisting/obstructing officers.”
