On Sunday, July 25, police allegedly received a call that someone in a pickup truck had aimed a pistol out of a window at someone. The incident allegedly occurred near 112th and Bishop Street. And it quickly turned into a high-speed chase, according to local and national news sites.
What Happened
After the initial call came in, the Illinois State Police spotted the vehicle in the 5500 block of South Cicero Avenue at about 2:16 am. The ISP attempted to stop the vehicle, but it allegedly sped away.
The pickup truck took off straight down Cicero, according to police. As it did, the ISP and CPD raced behind at what is only being described as “a high rate of speed.”
Within seconds, the pickup truck reached 69th and Cicero, where the street meets an overpass for a train. The situation turned tragic instantly.
In the video, the pickup truck is seen launching off the overpass before crashing into a boxcar. A fire sparks and dies near the front of the vehicle as it slams back to the ground. The outcome is heartbreaking for multiple families.
Three of the occupants died instantly. The fourth was transported to the hospital but was later pronounced dead. All of them were teenagers, and some were listed as being from different parts of the state.
Cristofer Lopez Montan, who was 19, and Yuarem Garcia-Pena, 18, were both from Woodstock. Yaritza Martinez Villeda was 17, and she was from Crystal Lake. Vanessa Morales was 14 and listed from Palatine. Watch the below video to see what happened. Viewer discretion is advised.
