What Happened
According to ClickOnDetroit.com, the victim in this case was sitting in his van in the driveway of his Detroit home at about 5 am. That’s when this everyday activity got bloody.
The victim told police that’s when a “male wearing dark clothing with a mask covering his face” walked up. The suspect told the victim to move to the back of the vehicle or that he would kill him. The victim declined.

Instead, the man being carjacked attempted to drive away. He suffers from “infirm knees” and didn’t think it was medically viable for him to crouch in the back of a van. The situation escalated, with the suspect unwilling to take no for an answer.
As reported by ClickOnDetroit.com, the suspect “pulled ‘a screwdriver from his pocket and began to strike’ the victim, then ‘stabbed’ him ‘in the head, neck, and upper torso,’ causing ‘multiple puncture wounds’ and knocking out a tooth.”
From there, the suspect sped off and continued to tell the victim to get in the back. At this point, the victim was bloody and in fear of bleeding to death. So, he made a choice no one wants to ever have to make.
To protect his life, the victim leapt from the van. He slammed onto the concrete and suffered several more bruises and scrapes. And he was strong enough to make it home to get help. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. The suspect drove away, but they weren’t free.
After giving his story to federal authorities, the victim waited for news, and he got it. Using license plate reader technology, the vehicle was spotted at 7 am on W. Warren and Grand River in Detroit.
Acting on this information, police caught up to the suspect at 9:30 am near 7 Mile in Detroit. The police activated their sirens and lights to try and pull him over. The traffic stop didn’t go according to plan.
The suspect drove off and crashed into a building in Livernois in Detroit. He then got out of the car and took off on foot, but police caught him shortly thereafter.
The man was identified as Rymon Randall, 41, and he caught some charges he likely didn’t expect. After the victim identified him from a recent screenshot, Randall was charged federally for the violent carjacking and kidnapping. The police noted that originally, the victim failed to identify the suspect in a photo lineup that included a photo of the suspect from a few years ago.
