What Happened
According to the Daily Herald, on Thursday, July 30, the family of Julian Newman, 30, reported him missing to the Lake County Forest Preserve Police. It is unclear how long he had been missing, but the report led to an immediate large scale search of the surrounding area.
Newman is reported to be from Evanston, but the multiagency search for him took place in Libertyville in a forest preserve. Police and firefighters searched for him in the Des Plaines River, along the 137 and 176 shoreline. The search bled over into Friday night, when the grim discovery was made by authorities.

At 7:30 pm on Friday, July 31, police and firefighters discovered the body of Julian Newman along the shore of the Des Plaines River. This is near West Oak Spring Road in Libertyville. Newman’s family wanted answers, and the Lake County Coroner’s Office provided some, but not all, answers.
The coroner’s office conducted an autopsy and released their findings on Monday, August 3. According to the examiner, Newman died of drowning. However, the drowning has not been confirmed as accidental or murder. The cause of death is drowning, but the manner of death has not been released. This case has people in fear because of another case.
The Busse Woods Death
Anthony Richert, who was 43 years old, had been missing, just like Newman. Richert’s decomposing body was found in the Busse Woods, part of a forest preserve in Schaumburg. His cause of death has not been finalized or released. You can read the specifics of his case here.
